Head of Trading

Beskrivelse av arbeidsgiver

Normarine AS is a specialist Frozen At Sea White fish business based in Aalesund, Norway. The business was established in 1989 and was run as a family business until early 2023 when the majority ownership transitioned to Sealaska. Normarine employs 6 people. There is a strong interaction with the offshore fleet of fishing vessels – enforced by the family owned cold store company, Sunnmøre Fiskeindustri AS.

Normarine, tied to UK's New England Seafood (NESI) under parent company Sealaska, is rapidly expanding. As a key supplier directly from the Norwegian fleet of offshore freezer vessels, we need to ensure it's poised to handle growth in the UK and US markets - as well as to continue to fully serve clients in Japan, China, The Middle East, and Europe

Head of Trading

The core purpose of this role is to lead the growth of Normarine internationally and to position the company to its chosen customers as their “preferred Frozen At Sea White fish Procurement Partner in Norway”. As Head of Trading, you will be responsible for the trading activities of Normarine, meaning the auction purchases, the customer sales contracts, and a full understanding of the finance and logistics steps and costs so that you come to own the Sales and gross margin delivery within the P&L.

Responsibilities:

As the chosen candidate, you'll be entrusted with the dynamic task of not just managing, but expanding a thriving white fish trading venture. Your role will encompass:

  • Cultivate strong, trusted relationships with vessel/fleet owners and managers.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of fish resources, industry structures, and market dynamics for informed procurement and selling strategies.
  • Create a purchasing strategy aligned with market trends and governance systems.
  • Maintain an active presence in auctions.
  • Provide clear and timely communication with customers, acting as an extension of their businesses.
  • Ensure seamless communication with the dedicated internal team at Normarine for alignment on actions and broader team needs.

This role will report to the CEO of Normarine.

Experience & Skills:

  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Experience in the fish industry is a plus, but not a strict requirement.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical standards, instilling confidence in diverse stakeholder groups, even in challenging situations.
  • Sharp understanding of market dynamics, skillfully blending data, evidence, and intuition to craft a unified commercial strategy.
  • Strong grasp of Profit and Loss (P&L) and cash flow dynamics within the business.
  • Adept at internal stakeholder engagement, fostering cross-functional synergy and effectiveness.
  • Proficient in planning, organization, system implementation, and effective work methods.
  • Proven track record in nurturing both teams and individuals, helping them unlock their full potential.
  • Fluent in Norwegian, with proficient spoken and written English. Knowledge of other languages is a valuable asset.

Normarine works globally across multiple time zones so the pattern of hours may vary according to operational needs. Some domestic and international travel and overnight stays will be required.

Who are we looking for?

In addition to the skills and experience mentioned earlier, our ideal candidate is a highly motivated and ambitious leader, poised to establish themselves as a key figure within Normarine – who’s already well integrated as the groups first stage of the supply chain. You should have the potential to rise to the CEO position within our global fish group.

Given the challenges inherent in our industry, resilience under pressure is paramount. The right candidate maintains composure, humor, and dignity in the face of adversity.

Above all, you must possess a compelling vision for the future of Normarine, one that can inspire others to embrace and work towards it.
