Mowi Feed is the feed manufacturing division within Mowi, the Global leader in salmon farming, processing and marketing. Having entered production in June 2014, Mowi Feed has quickly established itself as a competitive supplier of salmon feed playing a key role in supporting Mowi Farming in its delivery of high quality, nutritious, safe and profitable salmon. Currently operating from its factories in the Trøndelag Region of Norway and on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, Mowi Feed has an annual production volume in the order of  500,000 tonnes per year. We manufacture a broad portfolio of conventional and organic feeds for both fresh and seawater phases of salmon growth in Norway, Scotland, Ireland and The Faeroe Islands.

Mowi Feed is seeking to recruit a Fish Nutrition Researcher/ Product Developer

The position represents an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team working in the challenging and fast-moving area of salmon feed. Ultimately, you will be working alongside our experts in fish nutrition, raw material procurement, feed production and logistics. Simply put, your number one challenge will be to deliver the best products using competitively purchased raw materials in a highly competitive manufacturing environment.

We are seeking highly motivated, technically competent individual to focus on the formulation and continuous development of feeds that guarantee optimal salmon performance and quality whilst simultaneously extracting maximum value from the raw materials available to us. The role will contribute significantly to the development of our feed as it evolves to fit the needs of a highly successful farming business whilst delivering the rapidly changing requirements of retailers, fish quality and sustainability schemes. As part of the team reporting to the Director of Nutrition and Formulation, you will be delivering class-leading salmon nutrition through the optimum use of raw materials sourced from around the globe.

Based in the City of Bergen (Norway), you will work in the department responsible for a spectrum of activities from establishing nutrient requirements to defining the quality and value of the raw materials the business buys. As a Researcher / Product Developer, you will be responsible for the management of nutrition and feeding projects at our Field Trials stations in Norway and Scotland and involved in projects with a wide spectrum of third party R&D organisations both commercial and academic. The successful candidate will be involved in the implementation of the knowledge gained as well as in communicating the value of their discoveries to the wider Mowi business and beyond. The Nutrition and Formulation Team integrates seamlessly with the Operations and Procurement Departments to create class-leading products for the World’s #1 salmon farmer.

This is a ‘hands on role’ and the successful individual will be the one seeking to develop own knowledge and expertise and apply it within an efficient and dynamic technical / industrial / commercial workplace. Candidates should possess a good degree in biological or veterinary sciences combined with an MSc or preferably a PhD in animal nutrition. Experience in salmon feed product development, feed formulation and manufacturing and / or feed sales and marketing is an advantage, but is not an absolute requirement.

The working language will be English and the position will entail some international travel. The post will attract highly competitive remuneration packages
