Kaldvik is a part of an emerging and quickly growing Salmon Farming industry in Iceland, contributing to feed a global growing population with sustainable and healthy food. 200 dedicated employees are crucial for operations in the fully integrated value-chain from roe to harvesting and sales. The company is present in the South, North and East of Iceland. Main operations are in the East Fjords. We plan to harvest 20.000 tons of high-quality Salmon in 2024. We are seeking a Fish Health Manager (FHM) to further develop the company’s strategy and focus on constantly optimizing the health and welfare of our salmon. Ice Fish Farm is a responsible fish farming company aiming to develop local communities by producing sustainable healthy food from arctic waters, and the health and welfare of our salmon is a core focus for all our employees. As Fish Health Manager you will have a vital role in helping all our employees reach their goal of producing the best salmon in the world.

You are preferably a veterinarian or an Aqua Medicine Biologist, although candidates with alternative competencies within the field of fish health and biology will be considered, and prescription rights are not required. Experience in fish health work in aquaculture and preferably salmonids are beneficial. The position requires skills in communication, structured approach to the discipline, ability to new thinking and dedication to improvement.

You will be located at one of Kaldvik locations in the East, North, or South of Iceland, or in our office in Reykjavik. For the right candidate, commuting from Norway, Scotland or similar can be considered. The position will include travelling to our production sites and other relevant meetings. You report to the Head of Fish Health and Quality.

Icelandic professionals are encouraged to apply, but also other nationalities will be considered. Training will be supported for unexperienced applicants with the right background. The company language is English, but skills in Icelandic and Norwegian are beneficial.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain overview of fish health status, structure relevant data, analyse and report on fish health.
  • Coordinate activities with our external Fish Health Service.
  • Contact with authorities on fish health and fish welfare issues.
  • Constantly develop and implement strategies to improve fish health and fish welfare with focus on prevention.
  • Close collaboration with colleagues, suppliers, and research institutions in the discipline.
  • Visit and support production sites and other relevant functions within the company.
  • Facilitate training for relevant processes and people.
  • Manage selected fish health projects.
  • Perform risk assessments and risk exercises.
  • Have the responsibility for ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Other relevant tasks related to Fish Health management.

Requirements

  • Academic degree of McS- or PhD level in veterinary sciences, fish health biology or similar
  • Fish health related working experience from the salmon aquaculture industry.
  • An overall understanding of business processes and risks in the aquaculture industry.
  • You have a passion to constantly improve the living conditions of our salmon.
  • You enjoy high responsibility and can work independently.
  • You are a service minded team player that understands the importance of diplomacy when shaking colleagues’ work habits.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse technical data, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions, utilizing insights from other industries to drive innovation.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and regulatory compliance within aquaculture operations
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
