AquaGen is a research-driven company which develops and applies state-of-the-art farming, reproduction, and genomic protocols to selection and breeding of different fish species and to supplying their fertilized eggs to the global aquaculture industry. We seek a skilled breeding researcher with a passion for applied research. As a researcher in AquaGen, you will be part of a group of theoretical and practical scientists working for a healthy and fast-growing farmed salmon.
AquaGen's research department, Breeding and R&D, counts 20 researchers within the fields of genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, breeding, reproduction and cybernetics. The teams responsibility is maintaining and improving the genetics of AquaGen’s many breeding programs. Our researchers has extensive collaborations nationally and internationally and seeks to use new technologies to bring innovations into fish breeding, fish health and sustainable aquaculture globally. The research team utilize and collaborate with all parts of our value chain.
About the position
- We are running an increasing number of breeding programs, and there is a need for more resources to follow up breeding activities. The researcher is expected to
- Work on genomic prediction, selection and contribute to the breeding activities for all species that AquaGen work with
- Generate documentation for the breeding programs
- Support our different teams with data and documentation
- Collect data in collaboration with our partners and customers, to document performance of the products represented in our breeding programs
Preferred qualifications
- PhD or a Master’s degree within breeding, statistics, mathematics, or bioinformatics
- Relevant working experience, preferably from industry application of selective breeding and or applied genetic improvement programs
- Programming competence in some statistical languages as R, Python, Julia or SAS
- Knowledge about dbases software like R or SQL
- A good communicator that can collaborate across the different teams in our value chain
- Excellent in spoken and written English
