Project Manager Cleanerfish Health

Use of cleanerfish is an important measure for lice control in today’s salmon farming and represents a passive, nonmedicinal, continuous and sustainable tool. In order to ensure best possible health and welfare for the cleanerfish, at the same time further improving cleanerfish as a lice control measure, research within cleanerfish farming practices, nutrition and fish health is needed. Mowi also put high focus on best practices for use and management of cleanerfish through the sea phase to optimize the effect and maintain fish health and welfare for the cleanerfish, both for farmed and wild caught species. Mowi farm lumpfish in Norway, Faroe Islands, Ireland and Scotland and Ballan wrasse in Scotland and Norway.

Global R&D and Technical Department seek a Project Manager Cleanerfish Health

We are looking for a systematic and enthusiastic technically skilled person who wants to play a key role in our company. Reporting to the R&D Manager for Cleanerfish you will be responsible for fish health research activities and contributing to reaching the strategic goals of the company and the Department. You will be part of a newly established cleanerfish team within the Global R&D and Technical Department, responsible for production, fish health and welfare as well as optimal use of cleanerfish for sea lice control.

Key responsibilities 

  • Drive knowledge generation and development of good fish health and welfare for cleanerfish both in production facilities and in the sea sites
  • In close connection with our production facilities develop and further strengthen disease monitoring, diagnostic tools as well as disease control and preventative measures
  • Plan, manage and report on projects in key areas such as new emerging diseases, vaccine development, biosecurity and disease control measures.
  • Develop recommendations and support implementation of results
  • Maintain strong internal and external networks
  • Develop new ideas and approaches in a positive working environment

Required competence and experience 

  • Master’s degree or PhD in fish health or veterinary medicine
  • Specialized knowledge and interest within cleanerfish biology and fish health
  • Competence in areas of epidemiology, study design and data analysis
  • Project management experience and ability to work with operations and scientific partners
  • Ability to translate research and technical knowledge into operational activities
  • Self‐motivated and goal oriented
  • Proficiency with standard IT / software systems
  • Fluent in Norwegian and English
  • Willingness to travel

The position will be based in Bergen. The position will work closely with and support the cleanerfish farming operations as well as salmon farming operations both in Scotland, Faroes, Ireland, Canada and Norway.
