Benchmark Genetics Iceland is seeking a hands-on Fish Health and Biosecurity Specialist to help maintain world-class standards in land-based Atlantic salmon broodstock production. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on preventive health, welfare, and biosecurity.

About the Role

You will be part of the Fish Health Team and collaborate closely with production teams and the Biology & Quality department. The role involves monitoring fish health, diagnostics, and implementing biosecurity routines across our Icelandic sites. You will be working out from our office in Reykjavik with all our facilities within an hour driving distance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine sampling, health inspections, and diagnostics
  • Perform necropsies during spawning operations
  • Participate in regular health visits and welfare assessments
  • Contribute to disease screening, documentation, and reporting
  • Improve welfare and biosecurity protocols in collaboration with the production team
  • Support audits and inspections by certification bodies, authorities, and customers

Qualifications

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine or Fish Health Biology
  • Experience in aquaculture is an advantage
  • Good documentation and communication skills
  • Fluent in English (understanding of a Nordic language is an advantage; Icelandic is considered beneficial)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Newly graduated candidates are encouraged to apply – full training will be provided
